Building a Library That Inspires Young Learners in Iperu Remo

At AZONETA, we believe that access to books and libraries at an early age plays a powerful role in shaping a child’s imagination, confidence, and lifelong love for learning.

A library is not just a room with shelves—it is a gateway to knowledge, quiet reflection, and possibility. This belief inspired our recent library facilities project at St. John Catholic Primary School in Iperu Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria.

About the Project

From Thursday, 22nd January to Wednesday, 27th January 2026, AZONETA supported the construction and furnishing of essential library facilities for primary school students in Iperu Remo. While the school had a designated library space, it lacked proper furniture such as shelves, tables, and stools—making it difficult for children to read, study, or borrow books comfortably.

With the dedication of volunteer teachers Adesina Tosin Victoria and Hannatu Yakubu, the project focused on creating a welcoming, child-friendly library environment that encourages reading, concentration, and curiosity.

Activities Delivered

  • Thursday, 22nd January 2026: Procurement of construction materials

  • Friday, 23rd January 2026: Construction of shelves and tables

  • Monday, 26th January 2026: Construction of desks and stools

  • Tuesday, 27th January 2026: Spraying and finishing of desks and table legs

  • Wednesday, 28th January 2026: Students welcomed to use the new library facilities, followed by appreciation from beneficiaries

Measurable Results

  • Number of students reached: 350

  • Outputs: All required library furniture—shelves, tables, and stools—completed and ready for use

Outcomes and Impact

The new library facilities have transformed the space into a calm, inviting environment where students can read, reflect, and engage with books meaningfully. Teachers and students alike expressed excitement and gratitude, noting that the improved setting supports focused reading, quiet study, and the ability to borrow and care for books properly.

Why Libraries Matter for Young Children

Libraries introduce children to worlds beyond their immediate surroundings. They strengthen literacy, imagination, and critical thinking, while also teaching patience, curiosity, and independent learning. By investing in safe, functional, and welcoming library spaces, AZONETA is helping young learners build strong educational foundations that will serve them for life.

This project reflects our commitment to transparency, impact, and the belief that small, thoughtful interventions—like shelves, desks, and books—can unlock big dreams. We thank our volunteers, partners, and stakeholders for making this work possible and for standing with us as we continue to support education and opportunity for children.
